In the last few years mmorpg games have took off. Alot of people are so addicted to world of warcraft that they will buy gold offline. Chinese prison guards forced inmates to farm gold and turn around and sell it online. This ended up becoming a multi million doller business. The prison guards ended up getting turned in when they got to greedy. They would force inmates to spend hours on computers and farm and mine gold.
Liu, a former prison guard who was reportedly imprisoned for three years in 2004 for illegally petitioning the government about hometown corruption, told the Guardian that the prisoners also mined coal, dug trenches, carved toothpicks and assembled car seat covers for export.
